Gastric bypass surgery or stomach stapling as it is sometimes referred to, is a surgical procedure where a surgeon staples the stomach making it much smaller. It is then reattached to the midsection of the intestine. Since this is considered a risky surgery, most surgeons will not perform this surgery on anyone who is less than 100 pounds overweight. If you are looking for Gastric Bypass Surgery information there are many good sites you can visit.Gastric Bypass Surgery information

Gastric bypass Surgery is reserved for the morbidly obese. Sometimes physicians take into account the mental status of a patient. There are times when a patient is suffering from clinical depression and is overweight ,but not considered morbidly obese. The surgeon may choose to do surgery in this case.

There are two types of gastric bypass surgeries: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB) and extensive gastric bypass. RGB is the most common type. The surgeon either uses staples or vertical banding to limit the amount of food that is eaten. Want more gastric bypass surgery information on this type of surgery? Check the web sites. There is a wide variety of information available. Extensive Gastric Bypass surgery is more complicated than RGB. With this surgery a section of the stomach is removed. The small pouch that is left is fastened directly to the lower intestine. There will be a good success at weight loss with this method, but there is also a high risk of nutritional deficiencies.

Some of the risks of bypass surgery are: Band erosion, pouch stretching, breakdown of staple lines, nutritional deficiencies, stomach contents leak into abdomen. It can also cause dumping syndrome. The contents of the stomach move too quickly through the small intestine. Gallstones after Gastric bypass is another common problem. Nutritional deficiencies after Extensive Gastric Bypass can lead to anemia and osteoporosis. People who have this type of surgery will have a lifelong need for special foods, and medicines. Obesity is Killing me, I really need help?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

I am 63 yrs old and weight 350 lbs. I have diabetes, high blood pressure. No cartilage in knees and sciatica. My insurance will not pay for for a gastric bypass, no a lap band. Doctors tell me to get out and walk, but I cant with my knees the way they are and besides my feet are so numb from the diabetes, I don’t always feel what is under them. I am on antidepressants. People tell me to go to Jenny Craig, or one of those place but I cant afford that. I have tried weight watcher, but I do not seem to be able to accomplish anything on my own. I truly need help. I am so happy that my daughter was able to have the bypass so that she will not have to suffer like this her whole life. I would give anything to loose 100 lbs before I turn 70. There are so many people out there that make money off of peoples short coming, like having not will power. There has to be somewhere I can go to get mental support and maybe even make some friends in the process. Arizona Desertrat.

I am 62 years old and I lost 35 pounds this year.

I highly recommend that you read the book Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Furhmann.

Read the reviews for it here: http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Live-Revolutionary-Formula-Sustained/product-reviews/0316735507/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_summary?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

After i tried a vegetarian diet and tried starving myself by drinking mostly grapefruit juice and having one vegetarian meal a day I started doing what Dr. Furhmann suggests and got to my target weight of 170 pounds in August and I am still following his suggestions and am maintaining 170 pounds. I was 205 in January so I lost a total of 35 pounds in 7 months. I could have done it much quicker if I started out with Dr’ Fuhrman’s approach to eating healthy by eating all I want of nutrient rich foods.

Forget about exercise for now. Lose some weight first. And when you are a bit lighter and feeling better you can begin exercising. I would suggest a rebounder with a crossbar to hold onto to maintain your balance. No need for jumping or even jogging on it. simply start out with gently moving your weight from one foot to the other and taking it from there.

As you lose weight, your blood pressure and diabetes will likely go away. No kidding!

Eating a plant based diet is the key and especially the most nutrient dense fruits and vegetables. Avoid refined foods which are empty calories supplying little nutrition which only make you want to eat more because your body is not getting what it needs to be healthy.

Please read the book. It can not only change your life but it can save your life as well.

It sounds to me like you are ready to make a commitment. That is a good thing.

How old must you be to obtain a gastric bypass surgery or plastic surgery?

Anyone who has had one, any information etc.. would be greatly appreciated :) Wondering what to expect, costs etc… Thanks

Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.

I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

My cousin got her revision surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

Gastro Bypass Surgery?!!!!?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

CAN I GET THIS COVERED BY MEDACAID? HOW? MY WEIGHT HAS ME SO DEPRESSED AND I HAVE NO ENERGEY NO DESIRE TO WANT TO GET UP TO DO ANYTHING? MY WEIGHT HAS BEEN CAUSEING ME PROBLEMS MY WHOLE LIFE I LOST IT THEN HAD KIDS AND GAINED IT BACK AND CAN NOT GET RID OF IT THIS TIME! IS FINANCING AVAVILABLE IF MEDACAID DOES NOT COVER IT?

Don’t do the surgery. It’s dangerous, it has tons of side effects, and the weight may STILL come back. Losing weight almost always comes back because your body is trying to ‘heal’ itself. You need to focus on finding joy in your life and conquering your depression (which can, in itself, make your weight a little better).

In just the first 3 years post-op, Lap Band reported 89% had one or more adverse events, ranging from mild, moderate, to severe. The most common were:

· vomiting (experienced by over half)

· gastroesophageal reflux (regurgitation)

· band slippage/pouch dilatation and stoma obstruction (stomach-band outlet blockage)

· esophageal dilatation or dysmotility (the long-term effects of dysfunctioning esophagus are currently unknown)

· constipation, diarrhea

· dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)

As Lap Band reported, in their study, 25% of the patients had their bands removed during their 3-year follow-up, most after adverse events. Another one in ten needed a second surgery to fix a problem.

I am considering having a gastric bypass done?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgeon

The surgeon in my area does this procedure with a laproscope for faster healing and a less invasive procedure. Is there anyone out there who can comment on having this done? Do you know anyone who has had this done? I am looking for any information you can give!

A good place to start would be http://www.obesityhelp.com/.

I had it done almost a year ago, laproscopically, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. I am down 180 pounds, all of my co-morbidities are gone, and I feel 20 years younger.

As for healing times, I had the surgery on a Wednesday, I was home on Saturday, and on Monday, I walked a mile.

Best of luck.

HELP!!!BAD SIDE EFFECT OF BARIATRIC/GASTRIC BYPAsS?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: bariatric gastric bypass surgery

My mom had Bariatric Surgery on April 20, 2004. She Looks great and until about a year ago was feeling great. ALL of her OLD health problems are gone, but now she has several new ones but they dont know what they are… She has something wrong with the Pancreas, so they think. They keep taking her in for surgeries and dont know what they are going in for and just try to repair her. She is in SEVERE PAIN ALL THE TIME!!! She is litterly having contractions because it feels like something is closing. They are sending her to Mayo Clinic because it is so bad. What do we expect? Anyone had these problems… She has already had her Gall Bladder removed.

PLEASE HELP MY MOM IS 46 AND DONT WANNA LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!!!! SHE CANT BECAUSE SHE IS IN TOO MUCH PAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roux-en-Y_gastric_bypass_surgery. This page describes what gastric bypass entails and lists various complications that can result.

Have you talked with her doctors yourself, or are you going by what your mother is telling you? If you have not talked with your mother’s doctors yet, please do so for your own peace of mind.

Also, look up Chronic Pain Syndrome (CPS). I have included some info on this for you, too. (This gives you a more vivid description of CPS, and it sounds similar to what you are describing: http://www.healthscout.com/ency/68/629/main.html#DefinitionofChronicPainSyndrome.) Mention this to your mother’s doctors and get a referral to a neurologist.

If necessary, get a second (or even a 3rd!) opinion about your mother’s health problems.

I know you are scared. Be there for your mom and be strong! Take care of yourself and your mother.

May God be with you every step of the way.

Can you do the diet they give for gastric bypass/lap-band and still lose the lbs without having the surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery diet

Just wondering if the strict diet is the main thing that makes you lose the weight. Would the Diet be healthy without the surgery? I’m considering the lap-band or gastric and i’m just trying to find out all my options. I’m 25 years old, 5′7, and weigh over 375. I’ve been on diets since i was 5..I’ve tried everything and i’m sick of being like this… Thank You for your input!

Yes, you will loss weight. Is it healthy to stay on the pre-surgery diet it without surgery, I doubt it. The diet I was on before the surgery was so strict that I would think you would get sick for missing nutrients. However, I am not a nutritionist so I cannot say for sure.

What I do know is that I am just like you. I have been dieting since I was 5. Every diet I have ever had went the same way. I would do great for 6-9 months. I would loss up to 50 lbs. Then due to any number of reasons, I would fail. I would then gain all the weight back plus some. At my top weight, I was 490lbs. Yes, that is almost a quarter ton.

I was down (if you can call it down) to 467 when I had the band put in. It has been almost 6 month. I am down 87 lbs. Yes, there are day that I want treats and junk. That is not what the band control. It controls portions threw hunger control. A small amount of food is enough to fill me up now. Even when I fail and eat something I know I shouldn’t I can only eat a small amount, so that damage is smaller. Instead of eating a half-gallon of ice cream, a kid’s cone is enough.

Yes, it is important to eat right. If you don’t you may not lose weight as fast or not at all, but I have as of yet gained any weight back, once I lost it. I have never been able to lose more then 50 lbs dieting, and had it stay off, but now with the band, I do have hope that it will stay off.

Check out http://www.obesityhelp.com/. They have a lot of great tips, both about weight loss surgery and weight loss in general. This website helped me decide what kind of surgery I wanted. I went with the band because I’m the kind of person that if a dangerous side effect is possible, I will end up having that problem. The band is 100% reversible and it is adjustable, unlike gastric bypass. That appealed to me.

Weight Loss Surgery After Baby…?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

Okay so I know this really doesn’t go in this section — but I’m on an asking roll tonight so I figure I’d get some insight from you mommies!! :)

I was thinking about getting the lap band surgery after my insurance through my work finally kicks in.. It would be fully covered because I meet all of the "health related" requirements that you need to get it done..

1. Would you get this done?
2. HAVE you gotten this done??
3. Heard anything good or bad about it???

I more so want to get it done for my daughter than for myself. I don’t really give a damn about how I look or my weight, but I don’t think it’s fair for my daughter (and possibly future children) to have a mother that is over weight and theres always the thought that over weight people die sooner than normal sized. My BMI is currently 43, and that’s WAY too high for my liking — especially since I’m only 19! My father had to get gastric bypass because he had diabetes so badly that they said he wouldn’t live 5 more years if he stayed at his weight with how bad his diabetes was. Unfortuanately, I’m following in his foot steps, not only being over weight — but showing the signs of developing diabetes.

SO anways.. Any answers are VERY appreciated!! :)
Thank you in advance!

regardless if you are going to get this done. You still need to exercise and get your muscles back in shape or you’re skin is going to look sunken in. It will do great to cut your calories but you still have to eat right to give your body what our muscles need and work the muscles.

I personally wouldn’t get it done but I’m not over weight. I’m 6′1 so no matter how much I weigh it doesn’t look fat (although I feel like a whale) but would rather eat well and exercise than have surgery……unless it were a tummy tuck or a boob job

Does anyone know of any organizations that will pay for gastric bypass surgery for low income people?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

any information would be greatly appreciated

No, there is no one that does these surgeries for free or any organization that pays for them that I have ever heard about. If you are really low income, you might qualify for medical insurance through your state which might cover the cost.
