I am looking for information from lap band or gastric bypass patients, i am considering surgery myself.?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

For anyone who has had Lap Band surgery, advice on how you quit drinking with meals. Was it very difficult to follow the rules?

I had Gastric Bypass surgery about a year ago. I’ve lost 140 pounds and only have 40 more to go. I’ve had zero complications.

I never stopped drinking while eating. I mean, you can’t "chug" liquids, but my surgeon told me it was okay to SIP no more than one oz of fluid with a meal, so I have always done that. I like spicier foods and I found that I just couldn’t get through a meal without a little liquid to quench the fire on my tongue…lol… I usually drink milk with my meals to get in the extra protien, one ounce only. My surgeon said it was fine and I’ve had no issues because of it.

Does anyone know of and organization that helps you get approved for gastric bypass surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

I live in Milwaukee, WI any information would be greatly appreciated

Whatever sugeon you choose to do the surgery should get you approved. I have never heard of someone getting approval on their own. If you were denied and your surgeons office isn’t backing you and resubmitting your paperwork I would search for a new surgeon.

What is the cost for a gastric bypass surgery (in INR) in a good hospital in delhi?

A vauge idea is also welcome

Please add sources of your information. This will help me connect.

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Costs for bariatric surgery abroad can vary widely from country to country and within each country/city. On average, we have seen costs specific to gastric bypass surgery in India be in the $10,000 range. A good online tool that compares costs for various procedures abroad is AllMedicalTourism.com which can be found at: http://www.allmedicaltourism.com/index.asp?ClearCurrentSelected=1 The one caveat is that this website seems to overestimate the costs for surgery in the U.S. as their point of comparison (gastric bypass in the U.S. ranges anywhere from $15,000 to $35,000 depending on a variety of factors).

Good luck!

Jeff

who paid for renne williams gastric bypass surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

it was a 841 ton women that died in 2007 , after going threw the gastric bypass sugery. i’am trying 2 figure out who help pay for her gastric bypass sugery, because ‘m in need 2 get the sugery but i don’t have no insurance. so if u can send me some information.

If you are low income, I suggest you try state aid. I don’t know where you live, but every state that I know does have medical help for the poor at no charge. If you don’t know where the nearest state office is at, call you state governor’s office. I’m sure they can direct you to the right place.

I know you probably meant 841 lbs. but you said 841 ton. That would mean the woman weighed over one and a half million pounds. That would be quite a large lady. I don’t mean any disrespect and just found it amusing and thought I would mention it. Good luck with finding the help you need.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Information – Important Considerations

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

Gastric Bypass Surgery Information  - What You Need to ConsiderGastric Bypass Surgery Information

Gastric bypass surgery information can help the person considering this major procedure to understand all that is involved when choosing it. These type of surgeries change the size of the stomach, which also changes the amounts of food that can be consumed. They are offered to patients that want to lose weight and help prevent them from developing unhealthy disorders and diseases that are often associated with obesity. This weight loss surgery is the most commonly used weight loss procedure performed in the United States. Physicians choose this procedure over others because of its low risks and its long-term effects on weight loss. Of course, there are some side effects and risks, like all surgical procedures and understanding this gastric bypass surgery information can help patients when making the decision to choose this surgical procedure.

There are many different types of gastric bypass surgery, but the most commonly used one involves the stomach being stapled, creating a pouch with a passage to allow food to be rerouted to avoid a certain part of the small intestine. This procedure is called Roux-en-Y. For gastric bypass surgery information about the normal requirements for this procedure, patients should understand that doctors prefer to perform this on people who have not had success losing weight with conventional methods. They also should have a body mass index of 40 or above or 35 to 39.9 when serious medical conditions are present such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Although this procedure works well to reduce weight, the patient must also do their part of eating properly and maintaining an exercise routine.

The most important gastric bypass surgery information to know is the risks that can sometimes occur. As will all surgical procedures the patient may experience infection, bleeding or have a reaction to the anesthetic that is used. They also could have complications such as not being able to tolerate certain foods, becoming dehydrated, developing a bleeding ulcer, kidney and gallstones, hernias at the site of the incision or hypoglycemia.

Does anyone have any first hand info on gastric bypass surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

My sister is considering this surgery and I am helping her collect as much information as I can. I’d especially like to know if there are any bad side effects, the cost of the operation and if there are certain countries where it can be done cheaper.

back when this surgery was relatively new my mom had it.. she lost LOADS of weight in a small period of time which is never ever good, she also was not warned about the so called " dumping" that comes along with it essentially its if you eat the BAD foods such as high fatty foods you’d become quite ill because the pouch in which she had couldn’t handle it..they also didn’t tell her to take vitamins which is essential in actually getting the nurtrients you need because once you have this surgery your food intake goes down dramatically..as I said there have been major advances in this surgery since she had it but still there are major risks and should only be considered if a doctor recommends it.. there are several tests you must pass first to even know if you qualify for this surgery.. but if you do and you take your doctors advice and you treat yourself well after the surgery I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be successful.. just remember that with any surgery there are risks and with weight loss you must always maintain it for it to work on a long term effect. Good Luck to her! I hope she doesn’t go off somewhere else to have this surgery.. they could really botch her up and seriously its not even something *I* would consider doing.. just do it here in the states if you are approved. As far as costs I am not so sure she is just going to have to talk to a doctor and he can give her all that information.. I hope I helped you out some!

3 Important Surgical Weight Loss Options to Get Information About Before Getting a Surgery

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

There are three types of weight loss surgery that are commonly performed on overweight people. These surgeries either make the stomach volume smaller or cut down the digestion tract.

The most established weight loss surgery procedure performed these days is the Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass. This operation makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass a part of the small intestine. This procedure also minimizes the amount of food going into the stomach and the amount of food that is absorbed in the digestive system.

The stomach is either sewn closed or stapled at the upper half creating a smaller stomach on top. The intestines are then linked to the smaller stomach and food passes directly from one to another. In this way the stomach is separated into one small and one large section. The result of this is that less food will give the sensation of fullness and thus fewer calories will be consumed.

The food then passes through the shortened segment of the small intestine, allowing less food to be absorbed and this also results in fewer calories being absorbed by the body. The combination of getting full quicker and the lower absorption of calories lead to weight loss.

The Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass surgery has the benefits of a quick weight loss right after operation. The average weight loss for patients that go through a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is 60 to 80% of their excess body. This happens in most instances 12 to 18 months after the surgery. But after five years, patients are in average only able to keep off 55-59% of their excess body weight.

This procedure has a higher success rate than other forms of weight loss surgery. On the other hand, the Gastric Bypass is often further invasive as it is often performed as an open incision, and the time to recover is long. But in some cases the operation could also be performed laparoscopically, which means that the operation is performed as a keyhole surgery.

Biliopancreatic diversion is the most radical of the weight loss surgeries. In this operation, about three-fourths of the stomach is entirely removed and the remainder of the stomach is linked to the ending section of the small intestines.

There are quite a lot of disadvantages to this method like having a higher mortality rate, life long bone density loss, the dumping syndrome and anemia. The benefits to this weight loss surgery are that it gives the patients the biggest initial weight loss and that it is possible to feed as normal people.

The newer Lap band surgery makes a smaller stomach by an adjustable band which is positioned around the top segment of the stomach. The band makes it possible to regulate the volume of food going into the stomach. The band could be changed until the preferred weight loss is achieved.

The lap band procedure is in most cases suggested because of the shorter recuperation and smaller risks. The Lap band is also favored because it is reversible and flexible. Often patients go through a more even time of weight loss and are able to keep the weight off longer than with other surgical methods. Lap band surgery patients reach an average weight loss of 36 to 60% of their excess body weight after 12 to 24 months.

Before you get a weight loss surgery you should get as much information about the different weight loss surgery options as possible. It is important that you know both the advantage and the disadvantage of each method. One way to find more information is to use the Internet.

I’m looking for information about stomach stapling also known as gastric bypass surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

I am a 5′4 300 pound 27 year old woman. Need info. I live in the Toronto area. Ontario. Canada.

I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I’m 180 and holding. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I’m down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18.

Most people struggle with paying for the surgery. Go to this site, it is a great support system for you, because it’s only people who have had gastric bypass or lap band. Every insurance program has been rated, and you’ll get tips on how to deal with your insurance company, as well as, surgery tips, food tips, and just support. This site is free! I’d have to rate it a #1 site if you want to learn about the surgery and how to deal with the insurance companies and get support from other people in the same boat as you.
This is the #1 site for gastric bypass and it’s free! Extremely helpful! http://www.obesityhelp.com/
This explains about the surgery:

I really researched my surgeon, and I made a wise choice. Always get a surgeon that has done at least 200 of these surgeries. Get someone with a lot of experience, and you will do well.
Here’s all about my surgeon…

http://www.cmch.org/profile-pilkington.html

You just can’t find a better surgeon than him! He’s probably done at least 500 of the surgeries, so far. I did so well after my surgery, I thank him every time I see him.
I made it to 175! It’s been almost 2 years since my surgery. I haven’t had any complications at all with my surgery! My health has been very good, and I’ve lost the weight nice and slow, so my body doesn’t look that much out of shape. I’ve been faithfully taking my vitamins, and my blood work came back excellent! I still think very highly of Dr. Pilkington, and would recommend to anyone thinking of this surgery, to have Dr. Pilkington as his or her surgeon. I’m walking proof, that he is an excellent doctor. I just spoke to another patient of his who told me she had a very good experience with him, and she is in excellent health, as well. He is a very caring doctor. I live in Florida in the winter. I see alot of folks down there because of my job, and I see people from all over the USA and overseas. Since my surgery, I’ve talked to lots of others that have had the surgery in Florida, and some of them didn’t do as well, and I tend to think it’s because their doctors weren’t as competent as mine. I feel that part of how you do, is because of your general health and attitude. The other major part is how good your doctor is.

What are the downsides to gastric bypass surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastric bypass surgery information

specifically what are the nutritional ramifications because I have read that B-vitamins and protein cannot be absorbed because of the portion of small intestine that is bypassed. Also, what happens if there is a pregancy? What happens to a developing fetus if the B-vitamins and protein is not accessible? What are other downsides to gastric bypass surgery? I want to make the best informed decision and I am afraid that I am only hearing of the "up" sides of surgery or at best "sugar coated" negative sides to the surgery. I would like the most information anyone is able to give me! Thank you!

If I was interested in that kind of surgery, I would go to my family doctor. He will be able to answer all your questions. In fact he can refer you to a doctor that can help you. Please, be very careful on deciding to have the surgery and be sure to shop for an absolute, 100% for real doctor that knows his business. I will be anxious for you. And I pray you will make the right decision . Thanks and God Bless.
