Gastric Bypass Surgery or Lap Band surgery in children?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

I was watching an old rerun of Oprah just then and I had to pass it since I was getting so mad.
They were talking about giving the operation to children and the parents were saying that there kids need it, and they were talking to the kids about how it changed them and they were saying how they couldn’t keep two cheeseburgers with fries down anymore, they could only eat one with fries.
I swear to you I SCREAMED at my television.
It seemed so ridiculous to me that a parent would put there child through an invasive surgery to stop them from over eating rather then controlling what they ate.
I am slightly prejudiced on this because I am vegan but a healthy well balanced vegan lifestyle cuts out all saturated fats and trans fats out of your diet as well as processed sugars.
Eating a diet of fresh fruit, veg, grains, nuts, and seeds seems so much less drastic then surgery.
Even when asked about their eating habits now they were saying they just bought lower calorie foods.
So, that sounds just like a whole lot of processed foods rather then the fresh stuff.
Gosh, one of the kids put on 50 pounds in a month! How is that possible, yet they are advocating that the surgery helped them and that they tried all these diets…
It wasn’t diabetes since they were checked for all that, these kids just over ate all the wrong foods.
Am I the only one who thinks that this represents a serious problem in Western culture (I’m in Australia but I KNOW this is a problem in most Western countries)??
THANKS
I KNOW you can be overweight eating vegan, I said CAN be.
There is HEAPS of vegan junk food out there that’s why I noted the good ones.

It’s the mothers fault we have overweight children.
If they get off their butts and do some home cooking instead
of feeding the kids McDonalds we wouldnt have kids in this shape.

Shut the TV off get rid of the video games, and for God’s sake
let the kids go to the park and play and burn calories.

With all the obesity problems today?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

would it be acceptable to perform gastro bypass surgery on infants while we circumcise them? Since we are already doing that, why not fix 2 issues at once right?
the surgery would be to prevent FUTURE obesity. of course infants aren’t fat

LOL thats funny.
you ARE just kidding…right?

Actually…
Statistically NOT literally (The USA has more people) Australia has more overweight and obese people then the USA (or is that just scare tactics they teach at school?)
Yeah I mentioned the food already.
You can be vegan living of soy chocolate milkshakes, white bread covered in vegan chocolate spread and eating oreos every 5 minutes.

I think it’s just sick that parents wouldn’t watch what the children ate. Two cheeseburgers? I can’t even stomach one alone without fries. I brought my daughter up eating well. No one in my family is overweight. I was always taught to "try new foods" so I pushed that on my daughter. She now pushes it on her 2 year old.

Sure, all fast food places have dollar menus now, but that’s no excuse for only eating at those places. I haven’t been out to eat since last year. I love to cook and feed my family healthy foods.

What Oprah did was to tell the country that it’s ok to eat junk. Just get surgery later. How stupid. i think I would have been screaming at the tv like you did. How sick.

What exactly is lap band surgery?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

What exactly is lap band surgery? What does the procedure involve and is the surgery similar to gastro bypass surgery?
Would you reccomend people to get lapband?

The LaparoscopicBAND (also known as adjustable gastric banding or lap-band) is a breakthrough bariatric (weight-loss) procedure, designed to be safe, effective, and long-term. The band helps retrain you to eat smart, encouraging loss of most of your excess weight at a healthy pace and helping you keep it off, permanently. It is fully adjustable, which means that the level of restriction is set to your individual needs. It is also the only reversible weight loss surgery option available today.

Obesity is Killing me, I really need help?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

I am 63 yrs old and weight 350 lbs. I have diabetes, high blood pressure. No cartilage in knees and sciatica. My insurance will not pay for for a gastric bypass, no a lap band. Doctors tell me to get out and walk, but I cant with my knees the way they are and besides my feet are so numb from the diabetes, I don’t always feel what is under them. I am on antidepressants. People tell me to go to Jenny Craig, or one of those place but I cant afford that. I have tried weight watcher, but I do not seem to be able to accomplish anything on my own. I truly need help. I am so happy that my daughter was able to have the bypass so that she will not have to suffer like this her whole life. I would give anything to loose 100 lbs before I turn 70. There are so many people out there that make money off of peoples short coming, like having not will power. There has to be somewhere I can go to get mental support and maybe even make some friends in the process. Arizona Desertrat.

I am 62 years old and I lost 35 pounds this year.

I highly recommend that you read the book Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Furhmann.

Read the reviews for it here: http://www.amazon.com/Eat-Live-Revolutionary-Formula-Sustained/product-reviews/0316735507/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_summary?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

After i tried a vegetarian diet and tried starving myself by drinking mostly grapefruit juice and having one vegetarian meal a day I started doing what Dr. Furhmann suggests and got to my target weight of 170 pounds in August and I am still following his suggestions and am maintaining 170 pounds. I was 205 in January so I lost a total of 35 pounds in 7 months. I could have done it much quicker if I started out with Dr’ Fuhrman’s approach to eating healthy by eating all I want of nutrient rich foods.

Forget about exercise for now. Lose some weight first. And when you are a bit lighter and feeling better you can begin exercising. I would suggest a rebounder with a crossbar to hold onto to maintain your balance. No need for jumping or even jogging on it. simply start out with gently moving your weight from one foot to the other and taking it from there.

As you lose weight, your blood pressure and diabetes will likely go away. No kidding!

Eating a plant based diet is the key and especially the most nutrient dense fruits and vegetables. Avoid refined foods which are empty calories supplying little nutrition which only make you want to eat more because your body is not getting what it needs to be healthy.

Please read the book. It can not only change your life but it can save your life as well.

It sounds to me like you are ready to make a commitment. That is a good thing.

Gastro Bypass Surgery?!!!!?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: gastro bypass surgery

CAN I GET THIS COVERED BY MEDACAID? HOW? MY WEIGHT HAS ME SO DEPRESSED AND I HAVE NO ENERGEY NO DESIRE TO WANT TO GET UP TO DO ANYTHING? MY WEIGHT HAS BEEN CAUSEING ME PROBLEMS MY WHOLE LIFE I LOST IT THEN HAD KIDS AND GAINED IT BACK AND CAN NOT GET RID OF IT THIS TIME! IS FINANCING AVAVILABLE IF MEDACAID DOES NOT COVER IT?

Don’t do the surgery. It’s dangerous, it has tons of side effects, and the weight may STILL come back. Losing weight almost always comes back because your body is trying to ‘heal’ itself. You need to focus on finding joy in your life and conquering your depression (which can, in itself, make your weight a little better).

In just the first 3 years post-op, Lap Band reported 89% had one or more adverse events, ranging from mild, moderate, to severe. The most common were:

· vomiting (experienced by over half)

· gastroesophageal reflux (regurgitation)

· band slippage/pouch dilatation and stoma obstruction (stomach-band outlet blockage)

· esophageal dilatation or dysmotility (the long-term effects of dysfunctioning esophagus are currently unknown)

· constipation, diarrhea

· dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)

As Lap Band reported, in their study, 25% of the patients had their bands removed during their 3-year follow-up, most after adverse events. Another one in ten needed a second surgery to fix a problem.
